Barry leads the Christmas Spirit field home

Richard Barry (12) led the field home in Sunday’s Christmas Spirit competition with a fine score of 34pts.

That was two better than Diarmuid McAdam (23) with Locavore Autumn Series Overall Winner Austin Shaw (8) a further two points back in third having edged out Tommy Renaghan(13) on countback.

The top 20 finishers all received prizes while Ken Lynch (11) also had the distinction of recording a hole in one at the par three ninth.

The Locavore Autumn League presentation took place on Sunday evening in the Clubhouse. Congratulations once again to all the winners and many thanks to Locavore, Blackrock, for their generous sponsorship of the event.

Shaw crowned winner of Locavore Autumn Series

Austin Shaw (8) has been crowned winner of the inaugural Locavore Autumn Series after finishing one point clear of the field following the four round competition.

Playing out of Category One, which was for players off a handicap of less than 13, Shaw showed tremendous consistency with four consecutive top ten finishes to amass his total of 28pts.

Ciaran Sheridan (5), who won Sunday’s Singles Stableford competition, took the Category 1 prize on 23pts with Frank Byrne (9) and Liam Mernagh (12) trailing behind him.

Michael Hamilton (21) was the winner in Category 2 while George Rogers took the Category 3 prize after almost catching Shaw for the overall prize following a great final round performance.

The presentation of prizes to all the winners in the Locavore Autumn Series will take place this Sunday, December 18, in the Clubhouse.

Having shot 31pts the previous Sunday and come up short, Ciaran Sheridan, produced a similar score last Sunday and found it was enough to take the overall prize in Sunday’s 13 hole Single Stableford competition.

The five handicapper was steady throughout his round, picking up three points at the third, sixth and eight thanks to birdies and also scoring a three point par at the par-five seventh. His only blemish was a one point return from the tricky par four eight.

However, it was birdie three on the difficult par four 16th that proved the difference, as the four points he gained there enabled him to pip David Lynch (11) and Barry Grennan (10) by one point for the overall prize

Frank Byrne (9) took the Category 1 prize with Michael Hamilton taking Category 2 and Peter O’Brien (17) winning Category 3.

The winner of Week Four of the Nine Hole Repeater was Ken Lynch (11) who had 23pts and one to spare over Seamus Bailey (12) with Ray Pepper (20) a shot further back.

Five point birdie reaps rewards for McCrave

Anthony McCrave (21) was the winner of the Second Round of the Locovore Autumn Series when he edged out David Brennan (13) and Vincent Conlon (8) on countback after all three had tied on 30pts in Sunday’s Singles Stableford competition.

McCrave had started steadily enough with picking up four points from the first two holes thanks to two bogeys but when he failed to score at the third things looked bleak given there were only ten holes left to play in this 13 hole competition.

But the tide turned immediately for McCrave at the very next hole, the par four index one fourth, where he had two shots and picked up a massive five points after he managed a birdie three. He parred the par three fifth for another three points and got another three points at the par five seventh where he had two shots.

That left him on 17pts after seven holes and he went through the next three holes in six points to stand on 23pts after ten holes. The 16th, which was his 11th hole, yielded another two points as did the 18th and in between he managed to par the 17th for three points as he finished on 30pts.

He was joined on that total by Brennan and Conlon but while Brennan had 21pts over the final nine holes it was no match for McCrave who had 26pts, helped greatly by that five point birdie on the fourth.

Austin Shaw (8), Michael Hamilton (16) and Anthony McGuinness (23) took the category prizes.

The 10pts for being the leading Category 3 player has moved McCrave into second place in his section of the Locovore Autumn Series, level with Mark Coan and one point behind George Rogers. Shaw leads Category 1 on 17pts which is seven ahead of Conlon and Gregory McCaughey while Michael Hamilton is the Category 2 leader on 12pts, one better than Tom Clarke.

The Locovore Autumn Winter Series includes scores from Saturday as well as Sunday and the scores from Saturday have been weighted by minus five points to reflect the shorter course played.

Darragh O’Brien (13) won Week One of the Nine Hole Repeater with Brendan Cleary (23) taking Week Two with a tremendous score of 25pts.
