Back nine delivers PGA Tankard for Lynch

The PGA Tankard on Sunday was won by Ken Lynch (12) who produced a spectacular back nine to edge out Aaron Waite (16) on countback after both had returned scores of 42pts.

Lynch had turned for home on 17pts after blanking the sixth and having three pointers at the second and fifth cancelled out by one pointers at the third and fourth. He got the back nine off to a steady start with two points on the 10th before exploding into life by taking 13pts from the next four holes which included a birdie four for four points at the par five 12th. He picked up another three points at the 16th and 18th for a back nine of 25 points which is the equivalent of seven under par.

Junior Scratch Cup winner Josh Macken has had some week as he also won last Wednesday’s Open Singles Stableford with a score of 41pts which was enough to see him drop a shot in handicap while on Sunday he shot 40pts on his way to winning Category 1 in the PGA Tankard. Apart from Mackin, the other category winners were David Murden (13) and Stephen Haughey (17).
