This Saturday sees the staging of the Junior Scratch Cup in Dundalk Golf Club sponsored by DAR Golf Contruction Ltd.

The 36 hole competitioDAR Construction logon for those with handicaps between 5 and 9 will be played over the remodelled course which has seen extensive work carried out over the past 18 months, with new bunkering on all greens and new fairway bunkering on the front nine.

Further works to the back nine is expected to take place during the  coming winter.

The redesigned course by Ken Kearney has been widely acclaimed by all those who have played the course including 2016 Dundalk Senior Scratch Cup winner Caolan Rafferty.

‘The changes that Ken Kearney has made to the course in Dundalk Golf Club are in my opinion brilliant’, said Rafferty who won the Senior Scratch Cup played in April having finished runner up in the two previous years.

‘The change with the greenside bunkers last year made a big difference and already this year the fairway bunkers have helped to toughen up the course again. This has proven already this year with the scores that are being shot, such as in the Senior Scratch Cup where only a handful of scores were under par and the standard scratch changing from level to +1’.

‘The new bunkers on 2, 4, 6 and 18 are the real stand out changes. These changes make it a lot more difficult off the tee as you are no longer able to just stand up and blast driver. A lot more thought is needed when playing the course now and I don’t think it is just aimed at the longer hitters’.

‘All the changes affect every standard of golfer and that in my opinion makes the changes even better.’

‘I also think that Damien English and the green staff deserve a lot of praise along with DAR Golf for the work they have put in over the winter. The bunkers have set in and look like they have been there a lot longer then they have been which shows the quality of the work which they have done.

Endorsing the sentiments of Caolan Rafferty is Conor McCaughey, Course Chairman who said, ‘Having worked with DAR Golf in the past we had no hesitation in accepting their tender for the major construction work needed to re-model our golf course in line with golf course architect Ken Kearney’s recommendations’.

‘We were not disappointed with the quality of work, the respect with which the workforce had for the golf course, the attention to detail and deadlines and finally the finished product.

We are delighted that DAR Golf continue to be our partners and look forward to a continued fruitful association with them’.
