McCaughey lifts Paddy Markey Cup

Gregory McCaughey (10) got his summer off to a winning start with a one shot victory in the Paddy Markey Cup on Sunday with Michael Stewart (14) taking the Veteran’s Prize.

McCaughey shot a four under par 68 to edge out four handicapper Mark Gorham who shot a 69.

Eddie Rogers, after a good showing in the Senior Scratch Cup last weekend, won the Gross Prize with a two over par 74 while the category prizes went to Christy Ward (12), Tom Clarke (15) and Kevin Redmond (20).

The Paddy Markey Cup competition also includes a much sought after Veteran’s Prize and it took three countbacks before Michael Stewart and Leslie Toal were separated. Both these 14 handicappers shot 72s and were only separated when the countback went to the last three holes played after they finished equal on the back nine and back six.

The day was marked with a hole in one at the ninth where Ciaran Sheridan aced his tee-shot.
