Lady Captain Criona’s Team Event Raises Money for Birches Alzheimer Day Centre

LADY CAPTAIN Criona’s CHARITY in Aid Of “Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre, Dundalk’’, sponsored by  ‘Cathedral Financial Consultants LTD’ was played on Saturday 24th and Tuesday 27th August. This is a major event in the golfing calendar and it did not disappoint. 45 Ladies’ teams participated in this competition and the scoring was fantastic with the winning team having a superb 93pts. The winning team were Ex Officio Pat Cleary, Sinead O’Callaghan, Sally Mc Donnell and Ann Doohan. Pat Cleary spoke of their delight at winning and commented on their great golf. Congratulations to all the winners.

Noel Larney from Cathedral Financial Consultants spoke about how delighted they were to sponsor this competition which is in aid of the Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre.

Lady Captain Criona spoke emotionally about her personal association with the Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre. She spoke of the wonderful work they do to support people with dementia and their families. She welcomed Olive Joyce Director of Nursing from The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre. Olive spoke of the work they do to help support clients and their families. It is paramount to the staff that clients feel safe and welcomed. Lady Captain Criona thanked both the ladies and gentlemen of Dundalk golf club for their very generous financial contributions made towards this very worthy cause.

Play in Pink Competition a huge Success

The Pink Day in aid of Breast Cancer Research took place on Saturday 17th & Tuesday 20th August. The course on both days was a sea of ladies dressed in pink to support this extremely good cause. This day was a huge success with 120 ladies playing in the competition. The winners Noeleen Gernon and Joan Smith were the overall winners with a great score of 45pts closely followed by Mary Sinton and Zara Wadding with another great score of 45pts. We are hoping that the overall winners and gross winners will qualify to play in the finals later in October. Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all the ladies for their support. A huge thank you to the sponsors The Gift and Art Gallery for the lovely prizes and their continued support.

Teresa Giff wins Lady President Una’s Prize with a fantastic 70nett. Teresa spoke about her delight at winning this Golfer of the Year Competition. She played very solid golf in breezy conditions.

Lady Captain Criona’s Results

LADY CAPTAIN CRÍONA’S COMPETITION was a 36hole hole event held over two days. This is the most anticipated Golfer of the Year competition with everyone hoping to play well and win one of Lady Captain’s Criona’s beautiful prizes. On 9th July the ladies arrived to be greeted by Lady Captain Criona and the day did not disappoint. The ladies were treated to cakes galore and the weather did not disappoint. Many thanks to Lady Captain Criona and her committee for all their hard work and making this day so enjoyable.

On day one the scoring proved to extremely competitive with numerous ladies in contention for the overall prize. It was clear that lots of ladies played well with excellent playing conditions on the course. On day two the excitement was palpable with the overall honours going to Maura Shelly. Maura said she went out after having a 76nett on day one and felt relaxed. She was thrilled with her performance on the course and came in on day two with a 68nett. Close on her heels was Mary Burlingham who was as cool as a breeze and shot a 66nett on day two coming in as overall runner up. Well done to all the lucky winners on Lady Captain Criona’s very special two days.

At the presentation evening the ladies turned out in huge numbers and had lovely food prepared by Eileen and her dedicated team. Lady Captain Criona looked stunning and presented Maura Shelly with the overall prize. Maura spoke about how delighted she was to win Criona’s prize.  She said this day will be etched in her memory forever. Lady Captain Criona made an excellent speech thanking all who worked hard to make these days so memorable. She thanked the Head Greenkeeper Damien English and his team for all their work in getting the course ready for this major competition. She also thanked the catering and bar staff for their commitment, courtesy and hard work. Criona congratulated all the winners and in particular Maura Shelly in winning the overall prize. She is looking forward to enjoying the rest of her year as Lady Captain.

Team News

Hard luck to our Senior Foursome ladies who put up a gallant fight on Sunday 9th June in Blackbush, but didn’t qualify on the day. Our North Leinster Mixed were also defeated when they played Skerries on Saturday last.

Well done to our Irish Mixed Foursomes who defeated Beaverstown on Thursday 13th June. The ladies who played on the day were Mags Coburn, Brid Rocks, Ruth Connolly, Grainne Mullins and Theresa Connolly. The victory qualifies the team for the Quarter Finals where they will meet Ashbourne.
