O’Donoghue takes Round 3 in Winter League

Fourteen handicapper Anthony O’Donoghue won Sunday’s Singles Stableford competition which also doubled as Round 3 of the Tiernan’s Centra Blackrock Winter League.

A run of five successive three-point holes from the seventh to the 16th proved crucial and was an excellent response to his only dropped shot of the day at the par five sixth where he didn’t have a shot and had to settle for a one point bogey,

O’Donoghue also had back to back three point holes at the third and fourth for a total of seven three pointer while he also managed to score two points on five holes.

Kieran Arthurs (12) took the Category 1 prize on 31pts from Clem Walsh (5) finished on 30pts but had the consolation of taking the gross prize after shooting 26pts which was the equivalent of level par for the 13 holes. Sean O’Sullivan (17) and Anthony McGuinness (23) took the other two category prizes.

The 13 Hole Singles Stableford competition on St Patrick’s Day was won by Michael Hamilton (15) who beat Kenneth Cairns (16) on countback after both had shot best of the day scores of 31pts. They were a point ahead of Sean Ward (17), Michael Browne (21) and Gerry Murray (9) with Ultan Gaughran (9) being the final player to make the podium after his 29pts clinched sixth place.
