Perry and Carr teams through but Daly team bow out

There were wins this week for the Fred Perry and JB Carr Trophy teams but the Fred Daly team bowed out of this year’s competition.

The JB Carr Trophy team are through to the county final after beating Seapoint by 3.5 to 1.5 in the Louth semi-final. They now face Greenore in a two leg final for the county title. In the top match, the Dundalk pairing of Eddie Rocks and Tommy Renaghan lost 6&5 but Jim Dwyer and Jimmy O’Connor took the second match and Austin Carroll and Pat Curran then halved their match to leave it all square with two matches still to be decided. Martin Crosby and Mickey Hamilton won 2&1 and then Micky Coburn and Sean O’Sullivan sealed the overall victory for Sean Hession’s men with a 4&3 win.

The Fred Perry team are through to the third round of this inaugural national competition for over 55s following their 4-1 win over Greenore. They now play Ardee in the next round.

The Fred Daly U18 team bowed out of the competition on Saturday when they lost 3-2 to Laytown & Bettystown despite winning two matches away from home. Kyle Rafferty won 5&4 while Ciaran Johnston birdied the par five 18th to win his match 1up. Josh Mackin, playing his seventh round in seven days just 24 hours after winning the Ulster Boys, lost in the top match in Laytown while back in Dundalk there were 2&1 losses for Zak Alderdice and Conor Murphy.
