Day to remember as McKell denies McCaughey

Andrew McKell had a day to remember last Sunday when he won the 14 Hole Singles Stableford competition with an excellent score of 34pts to deny Peter McCaughey victory for a second successive week.

McKell, who plays off 29, took full advantage of the 23 strokes he had as he scored on every hole and managed to collect four points on both the ninth and the 18th. He got off to the perfect start as he picked up three points from the first and second holes and then had three successive two points before a par on the sixth yielded another three points.

A triple bogey eight at the seventh, where he had two shots, delivered a point and he then finished the back nine strongly with a three-point bogey at eight and a four-point birdie two at the par three ninth.

That gave him 23pts for the front nine and he then picked up 11pts over the final four holes with the highlight being his four point par on the last which was enough to edge out McCaughey (20) who had shot 33pts.

Seamus Bailey (12) finished a further shot back on 32pts to take third overall while Charlie Monahan (10), Kieran Reidy (15) and Pat Daly (21) took the category prizes and Frank Byrne (7) with 25pts had the day’s best gross score.

The day was also memorable for Gerard Daly who had a hole in one at the ninth.
