Two great rounds deliver Lady Captain’s Prize for Smyth Baillie

Lady Captain Pauline Campbell with the overall winner Leonie Ballie Smyth

The highlight of the ladies golfing calendar, Lady Captain Pauline Campbell’s Prize, was played over two days on Tuesday, July 6 and Saturday, July 10. This event was long anticipated, as it had been cancelled last year due to the pandemic. A packed timesheet on both days reflected the enthusiasm of all ladies to return to normal competitive golf and to support the Lady Captain for her work and commitment to the Ladies Section.

The overall winners of this competition were determined by the cumulative stableford scores over two days. Hence, experienced and consistent competitors were the ones to watch in the battle for the top spots.

The leaderboard after Day 1 indicated that it was going to be a tight race to the top. Eight ladies carded 40 points or over, with a further seven ladies returning 39 points. Four ladies were a further point adrift.

The overall winner, Leone Smyth Baillie, carded a superb score of 40 points on Day One to place her as one to watch. A fabulous 25 points on the front nine included a birdie two on the ninth hole. She added 37 points on Day Two to cement her place at the top of the leaderboard and win by one point from Angela McGuire.

Angela claimed the runners-up position with two steady and excellent rounds of 38 points. Denise Marron was third overall and Angela Kilboy finished fourth. All prize recipients were thrilled with the beautiful jewellery that the Lady Captain presented to them.

Lady Captain Pauline acknowledged what a difficult year it has been for everyone and welcomed the return to competitive golf. She thanked the members and staff of Dundalk Golf Club for their continued support and generosity and looked forward to a summer of golf ahead.

The sun shone on Dundalk Golf Club on Saturday, making for excellent playing conditions and thankfully, this continued into the evening. After the presentation outdoors, a superb week of golf was rounded off by fine food, great music and fun under the stars.

Lady Captain Pauline’s annual charity team event takes place this week in aid of SOSAD.
