Back nine the key as McDonagh claims PGA Tankard

Prize-winners in the PGA Tankard at Dundalk Golf Club were (from left): Grainne Mullins (Division 2), Lady Captain Pauline Campbell, Judy Mc Donough (Overall) and Elaine Ward (Division 1).

THE prestigious and popular PGA Tankard Competition was held on Saturday, September 25 and Tuesday, September 28. As always, this attracted a very large entry.

The overall winner was Judy Mc Donough, who returned a superb score of 39 points. Judy’s back nine proved pivotal in securing the winning spot on countback from category winners Elaine Ward and Grainne Mullins, who also shot 39 points.

Her front nine included pars on the first, fourth and ninth holes, yielding three points each. Judy shot 21 points on the back nine, with pars on both par fives, and on the 14th hole.

Many thanks to the PGA for their sponsorship and very well done to all prize winners.

This also marks the end of the Rings Competition for 2021. The finalised listings for this will be posted next week.
