Team competition hit by weather

The planned team competition over the last weekend in January was hit by the weather with the Sunday part cancelled.
However, six teams managed to play in difficult conditions on Saturday and the winners with an impressive score of 79 points was the quartet of Tommy Lennon, Richard Smyth, David Kelly and Chris Connolly.

tesla open up commanding lead in winter league

Team Tesla will take a commanding lead into the final week of the Precision Cables Winter League after shooting the best score on Week 5.
They were inspired by captain Brendan Keane, who led from the front with 32pts, and the in-form Aidan Gaughran who continued his good winter form by top-scoring with 33pts. Brian Gaughran with 31pts and Kenneth Cairns with 32pts were their other scorers.
Their overall weekend score of 128pts was six better than the next best total. It brought them to 613pts for the first five rounds and saw them extend their lead at the top of the Winter league table to 24pts over Team Hyundai.
Team Hyundai head the chasing pack on 589pts. They picked up 119pts in round five with Noel Mc Guinness their top scorer with 33pts followed by Cathal Connolly on 31pts.
Team Mercedes now lie in 3rd place by themselves on 581pts with David Kelly contributing 36pts to their total of 117 which was the top individual score among those competing in week 5 of Winter League.
Week 6, which will be the final week, of the Precision Cables Winter League takes place next weekend (January 31 and February 1) with the presentation planned for Sunday, February 8 at 2pm following a shotgun start team event in the morning.

Draws published for 2026 inter-club competitions

The draws for the 2026 Golf Ireland and Leinster Golf inter-club competitions have been published.
The Women's Junior Cup team, who won their second Leinster North pennant in three years in 2025 and reached the All-Ireland semi-final, have been drawn away to Corrstown in the first round.
Many of last year's Junior Cup team are no eligible for the competition so they will be concentrating on the Senior Cup and Senior Foursomes. In the Senior Cup Dundalk will face Laytown & Bettystown in the second round and in the Senior Foursomes the round two opposition will be Corrstown. 
The Intermediate Foursomes team are at home to Laytown & Bettystown in round one while the Minor Foursomes team are away to Ardee in round two. 
In the Leinster Women's Trophy Dundalk will face Co Louth in round one while Balbriggan provide the opposition in round one of the Revive Active Trophy.
In the Men's Senior Cup Dundalk have received a bye in the first round and will be away to Balcarrick in the second round. After receiving a bye in the first round of the Barton Shield, Dundalk have been drawn away to the Leinster North holders Co Louth in the second round.
In the Men's Junior Cup Dundalk will face St Margaret’s in second round after getting a bye in the first round. There was first round bye for the Jimmy Bruen Shield team but they will face neighbours Greenore in the second round.
The Pierce Purcell team are away to Luttrellstown in round one while the Irish Mixed Foursomes team are home to County Louth in the first round and the Mixed Fourball team are away to Balbriggan in the opening round.
In the Barton Cup a first round bye has left Dundalk awaiting the winners of Seapoint and Ardee in the second round while there is home advantage for the Leinster Men's Trophy team in their first round tie against Laytown & Bettystown.
For the third successive year the Senior Inter-Club team have been drawn away to Couny Louth in the opening round while the Leinster Fourball team will meet either Co Louth or Greenore in the second round.

Murphy pips ryan for best weekend score

Best score of the weekend was the 40pts recorded by Division 4 category winner Conor Murphy (18) who just edged out Division 3 winner Simon Ryan (14) for the weekend bragging rights.
Ryan had four points to spare in winning his category from William Burke (18) who shot 36pts while Ryan’s 39pts was four better than Davy McDonnell (15) in Division 3.
Division 1 was won by Conor Murray (8) with 33pts, one better than Brendan Keane while in Division 2 David Kelly (11) shot 33pts to win by two from Frank Byrne (10).
 
Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18 – Precision Cables Winter League 14 Holes Singles Stableford - Division 1: Conor Murray (8) 33pts, Brendan Keane (8) 32pts. Division 2: David Kelly (11) 36pts, Frank P Byrne (10)  34pts. Division 3: Simon Ryan (14) 39pts, David McDonnell (15) 35pts. Division 4: Conor Murphy (18) 40 pts, William Burke (18) 36pts.

Martin shoots super score

​Week 5 of the Precision Cables Winter League was cancelled due to the icy conditions that prevailed over the weekend of January 9 to 11. 
But the 14 Hole singles competition that runs alongside the Winter League went ahead with 84 players bracing the difficult conditions.
Division 4 produced the best individual score as Paul Martin (19) had a superb score of 42pts to take that category. Next best was Conor Murray (8) in Division 1 with 39pts while Eamonn McEneaney (11) and Graham Purcell (14) both shots 37pts on their way to respectively winning Divisions 2 and 3.
Friday, January 9, Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11 - Precision Cables Winter League 14 Hole Singles Stableford – Division 1: Conor Murray (8) 39pts. Division 2: Eamon McEneaney (11) 37pts. Division 3: Graham Purcell (14) 37pts. Division 4: Paul Martin (19) 42pts.

Team Tesla extend winter league lead

Team Tesla captained by Brendan Keane have extended their lead at the top of the Precision Cables Winter League to 15pts after Week 4.
The Winter League resumed after the Christmas Break on the first weekend of the new year and six of Keane’s team braved the severe weather conditions to send a strong message to the rest of the chasing pack.
Five of the six scored 30pts or better as Kenneth Cairns led the charge with a return of 32pts with the four counting scorers racking up a combined 124pts to take their overall score to 485pts.
It was a bad week for Team Peugeot who dropped from second to fifth despite the best efforts of captain Mickey Coburn and the evergreen Jim Dwyer who shot 30pts and 32pts respectively.
Team Fiat, helped by 34pts from Michael Hamilton, moved from fourth to joint second alongside Team Hyundai for whom Cathal Connolly contributed 36pts.
Team Mercedes also leapfrogged Team Peugeot into fourth place with their total of 127pts being their best return of the campaign and the best of Week 4. Mark Cumiskey saw all seven of his team turning out with veteran Larry Hanratty contributing 33pts.
Cathal Connolly’s 36pts was the best individual score of Week 4 and that also helped him to win Division 2 in the 14 Hole Singles Stableford competition.
Dara Herr (14), who is not involved in the Winter League. had the best individual score of the weekend with 37pts to win Division 3 while Jim Dwyer (9) won Division 1with 32pts and George
Week 5 of the Winter League will be played this weekend.
