Kevin Barry won the Cochrane Cup on countback over the May Bank Holiday weekend with a superb score of 66. Playing off 16 he edged out Conor Martin (14) on a countback that went to the last six holes which Barry edged by 0.6 of a shot after both players had shot 32 nett on the back nine. Barry’s round saw him par the second eighth and ninth on the front nine as he went out in 42 gross for a nett return of 34. On the back nine he had back to back birdies at the 13th and 14th and pars at the 15th and 17th before making the only blemish on his card when he double bogeyed the final hole as he came home in 40 strokes for a nett score of 32. Martin had four pars on his front nine at the fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth as he went out in 41 for a nett 34. Coming home he birdied the 14th and parred the 10th, 13th, 15th and 16th with his 39 converting to a 32 nett for the final nine. Teenager Cameron Kilcoyne shot the day’s best gross score with a two under par 70. He had four pars at the second, third, fifth and sixth as he went out in 32 and although he birdied the 14th, bogeys at the 10th, 11th and 16th meant he came home in 38. Jim Dwyer (10) with a 67 won Division 1 on countback from Damien Garland (7) while Martin took the Division 2 category from Pat McEntegart (16). Division 3 was Simon Ryan (20) shoot 67 to beat Oisin Cairns (26) by two shots. Saturday, 3 May and Sunday, 4 May - Cochrane Cup (GOY 2) – Overall: Kevin Barry (16) 66/32/17.7.
