A blistering finish which yielded 12 points over the final three holes saw Andrew Nordone leave the field in his wake as he took the Singles tableford competition held on May 16 and 17.
The weekend competition was moved to a Friday and Saturday to facilitate the Senior Scratch Cup and just like the Sunday competition it produced a clear-cut winner. Playing off 32 Nordone had two shots on 14 holes and he used them effectively in compiling an impressive score of 47pts to win by seven points from Sean McErlean (12). His card contained four four-point pars. The first came at index one fourth hole and the other three came in the final three holes as he surged to the finish line. He also carded four three-point bogeys and had nine two-pointers as he went out in 22pts and came home in 25pts. McErlean took the runners-up spot on countback from Robert Williams (16) after an excellent 21pts on the back nine with Williams taking the Division 2 honours from Christopher McGeady (18). Kevin Redmond (10) won Division 1 from the in-form Ciaran Cooney (8) while Eamonn Arthur (23) was the Division 3 winners as he edged out Kieran Lally (29). Ciaran Traynor with 32pts recorded the competition’s best gross score. Friday, 16 May and Saturday, 17 May – Singles Stableford – Overall: Andrew Nordon (32) 47pts, Sean McErlean (12) 40/21pts.
