MEN'S SECTION Pat O’Hanlon led the qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the Carolan Cup which was played off the blue tees over the last weekend in April. Playing off 18, O’Hanlon shot a nett four under par score of 68 and pipped Johannes Steenvoorden (26) by a shot. O’Hanlon had seven pars during his round , two of which came on the front nine at the first and sixth, as he went out in 45 gross which was 36 nett. He moved up a gear down the back nine as he parred 12, 13, 14 17 and 18 to come home in 41 gross and 32 nett. Steenvorden had only one par at ninth but he recorded birdies at the fifth and 14th as he went out 33 nett and came home in 36 nett for a three under par 69. The top 16 qualified for the matchplay stages with the cut coming on 73/36.5/21.3 and the draw saw the top two qualifiers drawn against each other in the first round. The first round matches are to be played by Monday June 5th off the blue markers. Paul Lynch (21) won the Deluxe Bathrooms Open Singles Stableford last Wednesday on countback from Kieran Dunne (24) after both finished on 38pts. Caolan Rafferty with 39pts had the best gross score. On the inter-club front there were two good wins over Ardee in the Senior Cup and the Junior Cup but the Boys team lost to Laytown & Bettystown in the Fred Daly Trophy. LADIES SECTION The popular open four lady team event, sponsored by Specsavers, was held on Saturday April 30 and Tuesday May 3. There was a large entry with many visiting teams competing. The winning team of Ciara McGinnity, Mary McGinnity, Teresa O’Mahony and Anne McDonnell returned a super score of 81 points, two points ahead of their nearest rivals. Runners up were Gillian McDonnell, Deirdre Smith, Anna Rowland and Katie Rowland. Presentation of prizes took place in the clubhouse on Tuesday evening, with Paula Owens of Specsavers presenting the prizes. Thank you to Specsavers for their continued very generous sponsorship of this event. On the interclub front, the Minor Cup team had a great win over Greenore last weekend and advance to the next round. Unfortunately, the Mary McKenna team bowed out to Skerries. This weekend see the Revive Active Team take on Greenore on Saturday and the Carton Cup team play Ardee away on Sunday. Best of luck to all involved.
