COMPETITIONS ROUND-UP

MEN'S SECTION
Aaron Waite won the latest round in the Cathedral Financial Autumn Winter Series which was played over the weekend of October 7 and 8.
Playing off 10, he collected 12pts over the opening five holes thanks to three-point pars at the third and fourth. A blank at the par five sixth was nothing more than a hiccup as he scored eight points over the final three holes of the front nine thanks to a three-point par at the eighth and a three-point birdie two at the ninth.
That saw him turn on 20pts and after a one-point bogey six at the 10th he put his foot down once again and picked up 15pts over the next five holes including a four point birdie at the 11th and a three point birdie at the par three 13th. There were also three-point pars at the 12th and 15th before he gathered five points over the final three holes to come home in 21pts.
That saw him finish on 41pts and he took the overall victory on countback from Aidan Thornton (7) who had a superb 22pts on his front nine after picking up three points at the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Down the back nine he had six successive two-point returns before a par at the 16th yielded three points. One point from a bogey at 17 and three points from a bridie at the last saw him come home in 19pts.
Maurice Soraghan (8), Sean Gallagher (14) and Diarmuid Dullaghan (32) claimed the divisional prizes while Conal Murdock with 35pts had the best gross score over the two days.
Last Wednesday’s McKenna Man Open Singes Stableford was won by a visitor, Eythan Audley (9) from Clones who shot 40pts.

Wednesday, October 11 - McKenna Man Open Singles Stableford - Overall: Eythan Audley (9, Clones) 40pts. Division 1: Kevin Redmond (12) 38pts. Division 2: Robert O'Brien (17, County Tipperary) 39pts. Division 3: Tony Duffy (33) 37pts.

 LADIES SECTION 
A Three Lady Rumble was played on Saturday October 7 and Tuesday October 10. The winners were Deirdre Smith, Anna Rowland and Katie Rowland with a superb 82 points. They were four points ahead of their nearest rivals. Katherina Conneally Sloan, Lesley O’Keeffe and Bernie McCabe were in the runners-up spot. They beat Sally Ann McDonald,  Paula Bishoff and Paula Cahill on countback.
Next week’s competition is the final 18 hole competition of the season, with the Winter League commencing the following week. It also marks the end of the Rings competition.
The Ladies Committee had a terrific win in the Millennium Cup on Monday October 9. This was played in beautiful conditions in Seapoint. Congratulations to the team of Lady Captain Briege Renaghan,  Lady President Elizabeth McGuinness, Lady Vice Captain Mags Coburn, Siobhan Rogers, Alison Quigley, Grainne Mullins, Catherine Duff and Joyce Burbage.
