MEN'S SECTION Edward Lawrence won Briege Renaghan’s Lady Captain’s Prize to the Men which was played over the weekend of June 17 and 18. Playing off 19, he was one of the late starters on Sunday and he charged through the field to pip long-time leader Niall Morgan (29) who had set his score on Saturday morning. The key to Lawrence’s victory was parring all four par five holes and he also parred the fourth, 14th and 15th as he went out in 43 and back in 43 for a gross score of 86 and a nett score of 67. That was enough to pip Morgan by one shot and deny him his first ever victory since joining the club a few years ago. After a poor start, Morgan recovered and hit four pars at the fifth, 12th, 14th and 17th as he returned a net score of 68 from a gross total of 97. Conal Murdock reeled off two birdies and 12 pars on his way to recording the tournament’s best gross score of 74 while the evergreen Packie McGuinness claimed the Veteran’s prize with an excellent 70 nett off 12. Shane Byrne (10), Laurence O’Hanlon (18) and Craig Colgan (26)were the divisional winners. The Wednesday Open, sponsored by Deluxe Bathrooms, was won by Ross Kehoe (21) who shot 42pts to pip Colin Roche (3) by one point. Roche had the consolation of also taking the Gross Prize.
