Pat Davis won the House Committee Cup with a superb score of 46pts after being pushed hard by Tom Lanigan.
Playing off 21, Davis’s impressive return to the winner’s circle began with a three-point par at the first and he was in blistering form down the front nine as he added a four-point par at the index three seventh, three-point pars at the fifth and eighth and a three-point bogey at the index one fourth.
That saw him turn on 24pts and he picked up three points at each of the next three holes to move to 33pts after 12 holes. After a two-point bogey at the par three 13ths he recorded his only double bogey of the round at the short par four 14th.
He more than made up for that blemish with a strong finish that yielded another 10 points as he picked up three points at the 16th and 17th and two points at the 15th and 18th to come home in 22pts and finish on a score of 46pts that none of the other 236 players in the field were able to better.
Lanigan, playing off 27, came closest after a brilliant back nine of 25pts that saw him score four points at the 12th and 16th and three points at the 10th, 11th and 15th. His front nine score of 20pts included a four-point birdie two at the fifth but four double bogeys on the opening nine cost him overall victory.
Lanigan had to settle for winning Division 3 by five points from Conor Marron (21) while Neil Mullolly (9) showed a welcome return to form by shooting 41pts to take Division 1. Fionn Duffy (15) shot 43pts to edge out the evergreen Mickey Gill (13) by one point.
Graeme Smith won the gross prize with a level par 36pts.
Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10 - House Committee Cup – Overall - Patrick Davis (21) 46pts. Division 1 - Neil Mullooly (9) 41pts, Conor Murray (11) 40pts. Division 2 - Fionn Duffy (15) 43pts, Michael Gill (13) 42pts. Division 3 - Thomas Lanigan (27) 45pts, Conor Marron (21) 40pts. Gross: Graeme Smith 36pts.
