Dwyer is first winner of Caolan Rafferty Cup

Jim Dwyer was the inaugural winner of the Caolan Rafferty Cup after a brilliant round over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Playing off 12 he shot a four over par gross score of 76 for a nett 64 to win by one shot from Kenneth Cairns (14) and Paschal Keenan (18).
Known to all as “Rocky”, Dwyer got off to a solid start with three pars before carding a bogey five at the index one fourth hole. Three more pars were followed by a bogey at the par four eighth but a par at the ninth ensured he turned in 38 gross.
Another par followed at the par five 10th while a bogey at the index two 11th was cancelled out by a birdie at the par five 12th. Two more pars were followed by bogeys at the difficult 15th and 16th holes but he claimed a second birdie at the par three 17th before finishing with a bogey five at the last to come home in 38 gross.
Cairns and Phelan came closest to matching Dwyer’s 64 nett with Cairns left to rue a poor start that saw him double bogey two of the opening three holes while Phelan, after birdieing the 17th, bogeyed the last to miss out on a 64 nett.
Cairns’s 65 nett saw him take Division 2 by two shots from Tiarnan O’Brien while Keenan also had a two shot winning margin in Division 3 with Aidan Gaughran taking the runners-up spot.
Ronan Murphy (11) shot 69 nett to take Division 1 on countback from John Paul Casey (9)
Niall Henry had seven birdies and nine pars on his way to winning the gross prize with a five under par 67.
