IMPRESSIVE mCkENNA WINS aRKEW cUp

Eoghan McKenna shot the lowest gross and nett scores over the weekend of May 9 and 10 to win the Arkew Cup by one shot from Ciaran Daly and two shots from Turlach King and Pearse Murphy.  
Playing the blue championship course off five, McKenna shot a gross level par 72 for a nett score of 67 after a round that included three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars.
He covered the opening six holes in two under par thanks to birdies at the second and sixth before bogeys at the seventh and ninth saw in turn in level par gross but 33 nett. Another birdie followed at the par-five 10th and he then reeled of seven pars on the way home with the only blemish coming at the tricky par four 15th.
Ciaran Daly (16) had eight pars in his nett 68 and took Division 2 from Pearse Murphy (16) while Turlach King (12) won Division 1 with his nett 69 with Ciaran Sheridan (10) two shots further back in second place.
Vice-captain Martin McDonnell (21) shot 70 nett  to win Division 3 on countback from David Cleary (20) while teenager Ronan Norton Quigley claimed the gross prize as McKenna took the overall prize.

Division 2: Ciaran Daly (16) 68, Pearse Murphy (16) 69 (Last Nine). Division 3: Martin McDonnell (21) 70 (Last Nine), David Cleary (20) 70 (Last Nine). Gross Prize: Roan Norton Quigley 76.
