Alan Joynt (21) served up an impressive card to win the Wednesday Singles Stableford sponsored by McKenna Man.
After a three-point bogey at the index one fourth he finished the front nine with back-to-back three-point pars at the eighth and ninth to turn in 19pts. That was good for starters and the main course was three consecutive three-point pars on the 12th, 13th and 14th before he served up two more three-point pars at 17 and 18 as he came home in 22pts for an overall score of 41pts. That left him one point clear of Bernard Laverty (8) who did everything he could to catch Joynt including two three-point birdies at the 10th and 18th and an eagle two for four points at the par four 14th. It was a brave effort by Laverty but he was left to rue a blank at the second which ultimately cost him overall victory. Shane Hession (2), Tom Cunniffee (20) and Derek Williams (23) were the gross winners while Caolan Rafferty had five birdies and no bogeys in carding the day’s best gross score of 41pts.
