Josh Mackin (2) showed a welcome return to form in winning the Wednesday Singles Stableford Open as well recording the best gross score of the day. His round of 42pts nett began with a birdie at the first and was followed by three successive bogeys. However, back to back birdies at the fifth and sixth steadied the ship and allowed him to turn in level par. He moved back to one over after a bogey at the 12th but then showed some his class with five birdies over the last six holes.
That strong finish was needed to edge out Conor Dunn (13) on countback after he also shot 42pts. Visitor John McQuillan (6) from Cloverhill shot 40pts to win Division 1 while Eamonn Kelly (18) won Division 2 with 18pts and Trevor Singleton (27) claimed Division 3 with 37pts.

​Good luck to professional Cian Geraghty who tees it up on Tuesday at Dundonald Links in Scotland looking for one of the five places on offer for The Open at Royal Birkdale. Last week Cian claimed one of the eight places available at regional qualifying in The Island where he shot a four under par 68 to finish tied third.    

Conor McDonnell was the winner of Lady Captain Leone Baillie’s Prize to the Men over the midsummer weekend with a five under par nett score of 67.
Playing off 26, McDonnell opened with a par at the first he added further pars at the fifth and ninth and turned in 47 gross which was 34 nett after bogeys at the fourth and sixth, doubles at the second, third and eighth and a triple at the seventh.
He manged to keep his back nine triple bogey free as he parred 12 and 14, had bogeys at the 11, 13th, 17th and 18th and doubles at the 10th, 15th and 16th. That saw him cover the home run in 46 gross for a 33 nett.
His nett score of 67 was matched by Sam Malone (9). McDonnell had the better back six although it wasn’t required as under tournament rules Malone, as an intermediate member, is unable to win or be runner-up in a major tournament.
He had to settle for taking the Division 1 honours after a round of 76 gross which included birdies at the fourth, 11th and 12th as well as nine pars.
Frank Byrne (16) shot 84 gross for a 68 nett and was promoted to overall runner-up after a round that included seven pars, 10 bogeys and one double-bogey.
Caolan Rafferty shot a three under par 69 to take the Gross prize. He began with a bogey, his only one of the round, and went on to birdie the second, eighth, 12th and 18th.
The Veteran’s Prize was won by Michael Gallagher (22) whose round of 69 nett included six pars. 
Rory Henry (7) edged out Dennis Cunningham (12) on countback after both had shot 69 nett to take second in Division 1 while Tony O’Connell (15) shot 70 nett to win Division 2 from David Cairns (14) and David Lynch (14).
Division 3 was won by Colm Carolan (30) who also shot 70 nett with Kieran Lally (25) and Michael Hamilton (21) taking the other prize winning spots.

On the inter-club front the Senior Cup team advanced to the Leinster North quarter-finals with a 3.5 to 1.5 victories over Clontarf on Sunday evening after wins by Ben Cahill, Cameron Kilcoyne and Eoin Murphy while Peter Durnin was two up after 15 when he was called in.  They are now at home to Royal Tara in the last eight.
On Saturday the Newsam Cup team got their campaign off to a winning start with a 3-2 win over County Meath. There were wins for Mickey Browne & John McEneaney, Mickey Hamilton & Anthony McGuinness and Hugh Reilly & John McGeady.  

The Wednesday Open was won convincingly by Maciek Dobros (13) who shot an impressive 44pts to win by three points from Peter Tuite (8) and John mcLaughlin (23). His round included a birdie three at the index two 11th which earned him four points as well as 11 pars.
Tuite’s 41pts earned him the Division 1 honours while McLaughlin topped Division 3. Sean Matthews needed a last nine countback to take Division 2 after shooting 40pts. The best gross score was recorded by Joseph Laverty who shot a level par 36pts that included birdies at the third, 10th, 12th and 17th.

Oisin Cairns produced a superb round of 65 nett to win Leslie Walker’s Professional’s Prize by two shots from Mark Thornton over the weekend of June 13 and 14.
Playing off 22 Cairns started with a double bogey and bogey before holing the first of his five pars at the par four third.  A bogey at the index one fourth was followed by back to back pars at the fifth and sixth holes and three bogeys to the ninth saw him turn in 44 gross which was 33 nett.
He started the back nine with three successive bogeys before parring the par three 13th. That was followed by back to back bogeys before another par at the long 16th. He finished with two bogeys to come home in 43 gross which was a nett 32 and left him with a 65 nett and overall victory.
His nearest challenger for overall honours turned out to be Thornton who was playing off 32 and shot 99 gross for a nett score of 67. His round included four pars at the sixth, 15th, 16th and 18th.  
Conor Curran took the Gross Prize after a round of 74 which included birdies at the 10th and 14th while the Veteran’s Prize went to Peter Rogers (4) who recorded one birdie and 14 pars for a nett score of 71.
The evergreen Clem Walshe (6) shot 71 nett to take Division 1 by one shot from Eoghan McKenna (4) and Robert White (3) while Division 2 went to Jordan Keating (19) on countback after he and Anthony Tuite (15) had both shot 68 nett.  Tommy Lennon (32) was the Division 3 winner with a 68 nett.
The Professional’s Prize attracted an entry of 288 golfers over the two days and the presentations were made on Sunday evening in the Clubhouse.

It was a good weekend on the inter-club front with wins for both the Junior Cup and Pierce Purcell Shield teams over Balbriggan and Malahide respectively.
After wins by Eoin McKenna and Conor Murphy in the Junior Cup, the 3-2 win over Balbriggan was clinched on the 20th hole by Robert O’Hanlon.
Dundalk will now play Roganstown in the Leinster North Junior Cup quarter-finals.
In the 3.5 to 0.5 win over Malahide in the Pierce Purcell Shield there were wins for Adrian Kenny & Gerry McDermott, Padraig Fallon & Eamon Kelly and Michael O’Sullivan & Padraig Hassett while John McKeever & Martin Carins were all square with three to play when they were called in.
Dundalk will now face Castleknock in the Leinster North Pierce Purcell quarter-finals.      

The Wednesday Open was won by Ross Kehoe (14) with 43pts.
​His round included three-pointers at the second, third and ninth as he went out in 21 pts.
On the way home he had three-point pars at the 10th, 11th, 12th and a three point birdie at the 14th as he completed the back nine in 22pts.
Nobody else broke 40pts with 39pts good enough for Eddie McArdle (18) to win Division 2 while Mario Gaztambide (5) took Division 1 with 38pts and Ben O’Connor won Division 3 with 37pts.
The best gross score was recorded by Cameron Kilcoyne who shot a one par 35pts with three birdies coming at the seventh, 12th and 18th holes.

Christopher McGeady won the singles stableford competition which was played over the weekend of June 6 and 7. He scored 42pts which was three better than a large group of players on 39pts.
Playing off 19, McGeady laid down a strong foundation early as he scored 19pts over the first six holes thanks to a four-point par at the index one fourth where he had two shots as well as three-point pars at the other five holes in that sizzling six hole stretch.
However, he only turned for home with 20pts as he blanked seven and eight courtesy of two double bogeys and could only pick up one point for a double bogey five at the ninth.
That point helped steady the ship and he reeled off three successive two-point bogeys at the beginning of the back nine and then followed that with three successive three-point pars. After only securing one point at the 16th, he finished strongly with a four-point birdie at the par three 17th and a two point bogey five at the last to reach 42pts.
Gary Lennon (12) emerged from the group of players on 39pts to take runners-up spot on countback while 39pts was enough to see Paolo Cordiano (12) take Division 1 on countback from Ronan Murphy (10).
In Division 2, Robert O’Keeffe (19) took the honours on countback from John McKenna (16) after both tied on 39pts while in Division 3 Willie McKeever’s (22) 39pts saw him claim first place ahead of Tommy Lennon (31) who finished on 37pts.
Niall Henry recorded the competition’s best gross score with a two over par 34pts which included birdies at the 12th and 14th.
Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 – Singles Stableford – Overall: Christopher McGeady (19) 42pts, Gary Lennon (12) 39pts. Division1: Paolo Cordiano (12) 39pts (Last Three), Ronan Murphy (10) 39pts. The Senior Cup team opened their campaign with a win over Balcarrick and now face either Donabate or Clontarf in the next round.
The Barton Cup team had a super 3.5 to 0.5 win over County Louth with wins for Conall Murdock & Adrian Kenny, Aidan Thornton & Pearce Murphy and Maurice Soraghan & Connor Murray while Dennis Cunningham and Tony McGuinness were ahead when called in. They now face Forrest Little in the next round.
Unfortunately the Boys U15 Inter-Club team lost to Greenore in their second round match.
This Saturday sees the Junior Cup team facing Balbriggan at 4pm while on Sunday the Pierce Purcell team meet Malahide at 3pm.
