Team Tesla stepped on the gas in the final round of the Precision Cables Winter League to ensure that nobody would catch them as they romped to victory.
Captained by Brendan Keane they posted the highest score of week six top finish on 737pts and had 34pts to spare over Team Mercedes who made a late charge to claim the runners-up spot. Peter Cunningham with 34pts and Aidan Gaughran with 33pts were the top scorers for Tesla with Eddie Sheridan on 29pts and Brian Gaughran on 28pts the other contributors to their score of 124pts. After only scoring 110pts in the first round Team Tesla found their rhythm from the second round onwards with scores of 125pts, 126pts, 124pts, 128pts and 124pts propelling them to victory. All seven of their team contributed scoring round during the course of the competition with Kenneth Cairns and Alan Wilson the other two members of the victorious Tesla squad. Team Mercedes snatched second place by four points from Team Hyundai after a great charge up the table over the final three rounds as they managed to get all seven players out on each of those weeks. Barry Rafferty and David Kelly were their top scorers in the final round with both contributing 33pts, which added to the 28pts posted by Tommy Renaghan and Larry Hanratty gave them the second highest score of the week on 122pts. The other three members of the team were captain Mark Cumiskey, David Cairns and John McCann as they finished on 703pts. Team Hyundai, captained by Gerard Carroll, had gone into the final week eight points ahead of Team Mercedes but they could only manage 108pts with Gerry Mc Dermott top scoring on 30pts. That left them on 699pts and five points short of what they needed to secure second place. The individual singles stableford competition run alongside the Winter League saw Michael Noone (16) return the top score of the weekend with a superb 36pts. That saw him win Division 3 by one point from Alan Uzell (14). Dennis Cunningham (8) won Division 1 with 34pts with Gregory McCaughey (7) second on 33pts. In Division 2 John McKeever (10) shot 35pts to pip Peter Cunningham (12) by one point while in Division 4 Brian Whately needed a last nine countback to edge out Mickey Hamilton (17) after both had finished tied on 32pts.
