DUNDALK GOLF CLUB LOCAL RULES
7th September 2021 V28
Immovable Obstructions: Fixed Sprinkler Heads, All course furniture, Wooden Steps, Manhole covers, Direction Posts, Tee
Markers, Shelters, Pipes, Artificially surfaced roads, pathways and their edgings.
Exception - A player may not take relief under these Local Rules if interference by anything other than the condition covered in
this Local Rule makes the stroke clearly impracticable.
Immovable obstructions close to putting green: In addition to the types of interference described in Rule 16.1a, when a ball lies
in the general area, interference also exists if an immovable obstruction is: on the player’s line of play, is within two club-lengths
of the putting green, and is within two club-lengths of the ball. The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b. Exception – There
is no relief under this Local Rule if the player chooses a line of play that is clearly unreasonable.
Bridges : These are immoveable objects and are deemed ‘not to be in the penalty area’, relief can be obtained outside the
penalty area
Protection of young trees
The young trees identified by stakes are no play zones:
If a player’s ball lies anywhere on the course other than in a penalty area and it lies on or touches such a tree or such a tree
interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing, the player must take relief under Rule 16.
Drop Zones
Drop zones, labelled DZ, may be provided in some circumstances; GUR, penalty areas, obstructions etc. These are always for
optional use, unless specified otherwise and should be used in conjunction with the relevant rule. In cases where multiple drop
zones are made available – the nearest one to the ball should be used.
Red Penalty Area greenside on the 7th hole
If a ball last crossed the penalty area between the ground marked by two blue stakes, as an additional option the player may
drop a ball, under a penalty of one stroke, in the drop zone that lies closer to where the ball last crossed the hazard.
Ground Under Repair
Rule 16 applies.
Treat areas damaged by tree felling and heavy machinery marks as GUR. Treat disturbed areas marked with Blue and or black
stakes as GUR. (Nearest point of relief no nearer the hole) Please note nearest point of relief may place you in trees or a poor
lie. You also have the option to play ball as it lies – unless it is specified as a No Play Zone.
Gorse Refurbishment Area adjacent 10th Fairway
The area within the penalty area defined by a painted line and green tipped stakes, adjacent to the 10th fairway, including the
Flower/Stone Bed to front of 16th Tee box, is a no play zone. If a ball is in the penalty area, including when it is known or
virtually certain that a ball that has not been found came to rest in the penalty area, the player must take relief in the relief area
defined by the adjacent dropping zone for one penalty stroke.
COVID 19 Additional Local Rules
• Scorecard – Players should fill in their own scores on their own scorecard. Players should note the name of the marker
on the scorecard. The marker should verbally agree the Players score at the end of the round. If the marker has also
played in the event, the marker should also note the score of the player he is marking on his/her own card as
reference. Scorecards should be placed in the box provided taking care not to touch the surface of the box.
