MEN'S SECTION
Going into the final round things are heating up in the Precision Cables Winter League as Team Kestrel have knocked Team Raven off top spot for the first time since the league started.
Team captain Martin McDonnell inspired from the front alongside Eamon Mc Eneaney as both scored 33pts in round five with Pat Curran and Colm Garvey adding 32pts each for an overall total of 130.
That allowed them to close the gap and leapfrog over John McEneaney’s Team Raven into top spot but they only lead by one point going into the last round.
Billy Cairns top scored for Team Raven with 32pts as they returned 122pts from their four counting scores.
Team Falcon, assisted by a magnificent score of 42pts from Padraig Fallon Snr and a fine 34pts from Conor Byrne, scored 136pts which was the highest weekly total score from any of the ten teams.
That helped them to jump into third place and with only seven points between them and the leaders Ray Pepper’s team is still in with a big chance going into the final week.
Team Osprey dropped into fourth place despite a tremendous 35 pts from team captain Maurice Soraghan and it  now looks a tall ask to make up the 13pts deficit on the leaders going into round six.
Padraig Fallon’s 42pts was also the best individual score of the weekend singles stableford competition as he covered the 14 holes in 56 strokes which was one under par gross.
Playing off 13 he opened with a four-point birdie at the first and followed that with three three point pars before a two-point bogey at the fifth. He then had four three-point pars to the ninth which he covered in 27pts.
Another four-point birdie came at the 10th which was followed by a three-point par at the 11th and then another four-point par at the 12th. The 13th yielded at two-point bogey before he finished with a two-point par at the 14th, the only hole he didn’t have a shot on.
That amazing score was more than enough to take the honours in Division 3 as he had six points to spare over David Kelly (14) whose 36pts was the second best overall score of the weekend.
Maurice Soraghan (6) shot 35pts to win Division 1 by three points from Jim Dwyer (8) while Eamon McEneaney (12) beat Sean Gallagher (9) on countback in Division 2 after both had tied on 33pts. Countback was also needed in Division 4 to divide Gavin McDonnell (16) and Peter Cunningham (16) after both had shot 35pts.
Gerard Carroll also had a day to remember as his sweetly hit nine iron from 108 yards delivered him a hole in one on the par three 13th.
Saturday, 21 January and Sunday, 22 January – Precision Cables Winter League and 14 Hole Singles Stableford - Division 1: Maurice Soraghan (6) 35pts, Jim Dwyer (8) 33pts. Division 2: Eamon McEneaney (12) 33/22/15pts, Sean Gallagher (9) 33/22/14pts. Division 3: Padraig Fallon (13) 42pts, David Kelly (14) 36pts. Division 4: Gavin McDonnell (16) 35/26pts. Peter Cunningham (16) 35/21pts.

MEN'S SECTION
Mickey Coburn and Andrew Shekelton were the leading scorers in the singles stableford competition which marked the fourth round of the Precision Cables Winter League.
Both shot 38pts over the 14 holes in play with Niall Morgan on 36pts managing the third best score of the weekend.
Playing off eight, Coburn produced a superb round that included a four-point eagle at the par five 10th and four-point birdies at two other par fives, the seventh and 12th. He had another three-point birdie at the 13th and three-point pars at the first, third, fourth and eighth as well as two-point pars at the second, fifth and 14th.
His 38pts which was more than enough to take Division 1 with Ciaran Traynor (4) three points behind him on 35pts.
Playing off 17 Shekelton also had an eagle at the 10th which earned him five points and he added four-point pars at the seventh and 11th as well as three-point pars at the fifth, ninth, 12th, 13th and 14th and a three-point bogey at the fourth.
His 38pts earned him first place in Division 4, two points ahead of Morgan who took second in that category.
John McKeever (10) took Division 2 with 35pts after edging out Austin Carroll (12) on countback while Anthony McCrave (14) was the Division 3 winner with 34pts, two more than the evergreen Michael Stewart (15).
In the Precision Cables Winter League Coburn’s 38pts ensured Team Robin was the top scoring team in Week 4 with 132pts but on a weekend of hot scoring they were unable to make any progress up the table and remain second from bottom heading into the final two weeks.
Team Falcon, captained by Ray Pepper, jumped into fourth place with Ciaran Corbett their top performer with a credible 33pts.
However, Team Raven maintained their position on top of the table for the fourth consecutive week with four of their team contributing 30pts plus to their cause while David Brennan was their top scorer with 32pts.
With two rounds to go there is still a lot to play for as only 20pts separate first to fifth place on the table.
Saturday, 14 January and Sunday, 15 January – Singles Stableford and Round 4 of Precision Cables Winter League - Division 1: Michael Coburn (8) 38pts, Ciaran Traynor (4) 35pts.
