The announcement of the incoming officers for 2023 took place this evening in a packed clubhouse. Incoming Lady Captain Briege Renaghan has selected Elizabeth McGuinness as Lady President for 2023 and named Mags Coburn as her Vice-Captain. Clara Egan will be the Junior Girls Captain. Incoming Captain Noel Reid has selected Dr Paul O’Reilly as President for 2023 and named Ultan Herr as his Vice-Captain. Ben Cahill will be the Junior Boys Captain.

MEN'S SECTION
Michael McKevitt won the Singles Stableford competition held over the weekend of October 22 and 23 . A four-point haul from a par on the par five seventh helped McKevitt complete the front nine in 18pts. Down the back nine he had three consecutive three-point holes from the 11th and then parred the 16th for four points as he came home in 21pts for an overall total of 39pts. That back nine haul proved crucial as the overall honours were decided on countback with McKevitt edging out Tommy Renaghan for top spot with Renaghan needing the back six countback to see off Brian Gaughran for second. Gregory McCaughey (8) took Division 1, Ruairi McMahon (13) claimed Division 2 and Simon Ryan (21) was the Division 3 winner with Jason Murphy producing the best gross score of the competition. Visitors took two of the four prizes on offer in last Wednesday’s Open Singles Stableford sponsored by Deluxe Bathrooms. Ian Moore (7) from Clandeboye took Division 1 while Stuart Trotter (24) from Mayobridge won Division 3. The other prizes were claimed by home players Edward Lawrence (21), who won Division 2, and Colin Roche who took the gross prize. Played over 14 holes, Mary Lou Grennan, Sally McDonnell and Marie McGuigan took the divisional honours with 35 points, 32 points and 34 points respectively, gaining valuable points for their teams. Well done to all the prizewinners. Lady Captain Alison Quigley’s dinner takes place in the clubhouse on Friday November 4. MEN'S SECTION Paul Morgan made a brilliant birdie on the final hole to win the Singles Stableford competition which was held over the weekend of October 15 and 16. It gave him a final total of 41pts and that was enough to pip Declan Muckian (13) who finished with 40pts. Playing off 21, Morgan had gone out in 20pts helped by three consecutive three-point hauls from the fifth hole. Down the back nine Morgan picked up three points at both the 10th and 11th and managed to save a point at the 12th when he played out from the yellow hazard in front of the green. Another three points followed at the 14th, but he could only manage one point at the par three 17th which left him on 37pts standing on the 18th tee. His drive ended up along the tree line on the right of the fairway, but he had a line to the green and hit a magnificent approach shot to within six feet of the blue flag and then coolly sank the putt for a birdie, four points and final total of 41pts. Muckian had gone out in 21pts thanks to a four-point birdie at the fourth and three other three-point holes and he picked three points at both the 12th and 16th holes to reach 38pts with two holes to go. But he could only finish with 40pts after a blank at 17 and two points at 18. Aaron Waite (10), Anthony McCrave (18) and Sean Matthews (21) took the divisional honours while Jason Murphy with 34pts had the best gross. There was a great turnout in the Clubhouse for presentation of prizes for the Halloween Hamper and the previous week’s competitions. The Winter League commences next week. It will continue for six weeks and will be played over 14 holes. Ruairi McMahon won the Singles Stableford played over the weekend of October 8 and 9. Playing off 14 he shot 41pts to take the overall win by one point from Eoin Farrell (16). McMahon went out in 19pts thanks to three-point pars at the first, seventh, eighth and ninth. A birdie four at the 10th yielded four points and after two point pars at the 13th and 14th he finished with three point pars at the 15th, 16th and 18th to come home in 22pts. Farrell covered the front nine in 21pts which included a four point birdie at the eight as well as three three-point pars. He had four pars worth 11 points down the back nine as he came home in 19pts and was left to rue one point returns from the 10th and 18th. Colin Roche had four birdies on his way to recording the competition’s best gross score of 38pts while Divisional honours went to Desmond McKeown (10), Eoin Farrell (16) and Conor McGowan. Eugene Hanratty (25) with a score of 39pts had the best nett score in last Wednesday’s Open Singles Stableford and that ensured he won the Division 3 category. Damien Garland (8) with 38pts won Division 1 and Mark Coan (20) with 38pts won Division 2. The best gross was recorded by Caolan Rafferty who had four birdies and no bogeys in his score of 40pts. Today we had our latest pre-opening meeting with Alan from D-Lish and we are very excited with the prospect of reopening our restaurant next week.
The final touches are being carried out including improvements in the kitchen and the restaurant areas. Staff training, including fire drills, will take place in the coming days. The menu is also being finalised and it has been agreed that we will now officially reopen for full restaurant services on Thursday next, October 13. Andrew Shekleton won the Singles Stableford competition which was held over the first weekend of October. Playing off 26 he shot a fabulous score of 44pts to win by four points from Joseph Laverty (0). Shekleton, who went out in 21pts and came home in 23pts, had four point pars at the third, 11th and 12th, three point pars at the first and 17th and three point bogeys at the fourth, eighth and 15th. Laverty also produced a memorable round. Playing off scratch he shot 40pts which was also the best gross score of the day. His round featured seven birdies with the only dropped shots being a double bogey at the fourth and a bogey at the 11th. Sean Hession (9), Gerry O’Keefe (12) and Patrick Reilly (20) took the divisional honours.
