Team Raven retained top position on the Winter League leaderboard even though they could only manage the fourth highest score of the ten teams in Week Two.
John McEneaney's team picked up 131 points with Niall Sloane top scoring with 34 points. Michael Hamilton and Sean Hession followed in with 33 points each and BennyO'Shaughnessy brought home 31 points as the final counting score. That has brought their total to 253 points but their lead has been cut to two points as Team Osprey are now 251 points with Larry Hanratty leading the way with an impressive 35 points. Team Falcon were the top scorers on Week 2 with 134 points which helped them jump from 9th to 5th place and they are now only 14 points behind the leaders. Padraig Fallon was their top scorer with 35 points. Team Robin remain at the bottom for the second successive week and they will be looking to bounce back after the Christmas break when the Winter League resumes on the weekend of January 8 and 9. The final eight turkeys of the Christmas season were captured over the weekend of December 10 and 11 with Patrick Curran (17) producing the best score of the weekend with a tremendous 39pts. He had nine pars over the 14 holes including four point pars at the fourth, seventh and 11th where he had two shots and three point pars at the second, third, fifth, eighth, tenth and 13th. That left him four points clear of the field with Laurence Hanratty (22) next closest on 35pts and they finished first and second in Division FOur. MEN'S SECTION
Andrew Shekleton had the best score of the competition as eight more golfers claimed their Christmas turkeys over the first weekend of December. Playing off 17 he shot 38pts over 14 holes to win Division 4 by six points. His round included a five-point haul on one hole after he eagled the par five sixth as well as three point pars at the second, eighth, ninth, 10th, 12th and 14th. He also had three-point bogeys at the index one fourth and index two 11th. Christy Ward (7) took Division 1 with 31pts from Ultan Gaughran (7) while Ken Lynch (11) shot 34pts to win Division 2 from Tommy Renaghan (11). Gerard Daly was the Division 3 winner with 35pts with Ciaran McAteer (15) taking second and John McEneaney (19) finished second to Shekleton in Division 4. McEneaney is captain of Team Raven in the Winter League and he led his team to the top of the table after round one. His 32pts was the team’s best individual score with Niall Sloan (31pts), Billy Cairns (30pts) and Sean Hession (29pts) all contributing to their overall total of 122pts. McEneaney wasn’t the only captain to lead by example as four the team captains were among the top five individual scorers with Gerry Daly (Team Sparrow), Tommy Renaghan (Team Harrier), and John Mc Keever (Team Eagle) also leading from the front. Team Osprey are in second position with 119pts and with only 18pts separating the ten teams after round one everybody is still in with a chance of taking the title. LADIES SECTION The Christmas Spirit 9-hole competition was played on Saturday December 3 and Tuesday December 6. There was a great turnout of ladies in their festive outfits on both days. The Saturday winner was Bernie McCabe, with a superb 20 points. There was a full timesheet for a shotgun start on Tuesday. Brid Rocks was the winner of the Front 9 with 19 points and Geraldine Minogue won the Back 9 winner with 17 points. This week’s competition is a 3 Lady Rumble, the last competition of a very busy and successful golfing year.
