A solid, balanced round saw Conor Byrne (20) with 41 points emerge as the winner
by the slimmest of margins of the weekend Singles Stableford Competition which was played in windy, challenging conditions. The competition was also the qualifier for the matchplay phase of the Harry Walsh Cup. Pars for three points at the par four second and eighth holes and the par five sixth, backed up with two pointers on the other six holes, saw Conor turn on 21 points. His back nine continued the scoring consistency with three pointers at the par four 11th and 14th holes and par five 12th together with a solid run of two pointers from the 16th to the 18th holes which gave him 20 points on the back nine. Runner up was Jimmy O’Connor (18) on 40 points with a round that included three pointers at the fifth, eighth and ninth holes to boost his score to 20 points on the front nine. His back nine included a run of three pointers from the 12th to the 14th holes to help him finish the back nine on 20 points. The Division 1 winner Peter Rogers (2) with 38 points also claimed the accolade for the Best Gross. His round delivered seven pars and a birdie three on the index one fourth hole for 19 points on the front nine. His back nine included birdies at the par five 10th and par four 15th holes for three pointers along with a run of pars from the 16th to the 18th holes to finish with another 19 points. The other division winners were Malcolm Drake (18) with 39 points and Patrick Clarke (20) on 37 points.
