Club Classic 2024

​The 2024 Club Classic, which took place in beautiful conditions on Friday, May 10, raised over €8,000 for the Clubhouse Retrofit and €800 for the Juvenile Support Fund. Thirty-six teams took part in the 18 hole Club Classic with a further seven signing up for the nine-hole competition.

The 18 hole competition was a close affair with the winning team of Elaine Ward, Bernie McCabe, Marcella Carr and Aidan Farrell shooting 90pts to edge out by one point the team of Tommy Renaghan, Mark Browne, David Murden and Turlach King. Countback was needed to decide the nine hole competition with the team of Evelyn Fallon, Nora Donaghy, Fiona McLaughlin and Mary Hession, who shot 37pts, emerging as the winners. 

There was a nearest the pin competition on each of the par three holes with Una Delaney (5th), Mark Browne (9th), Sinead O’Callaghan (13th) and Delgany’s Declan McDonald 17th) taking the prizes on offer. Prizes were fourball green fees which were kindly donated by Co Louth, Kilkenny, Balcarrick, Laytown & Bettystown, Co Meath, Greenore and Ardee Golf Clubs.

Another feature of the day was the Beat the Junior competition where participants took on one of the club’s junior players to see who could shoot closest to the pin at the ninth. Over 160 players took part with only 11 managing to beat the younger players. They were entered into a draw for a golf bag sponsored by Leslie Walker which was won by Evelyn Fallon.

Prizes were presented at a presentation ceremony in the Clubhouse which was  hosted by Lady Vice Captain Sally McDonnell and Vice Captain Gerry McDermott. They headed up the organising committee which also included Captain Ultan Herr, Lady Captain Mags Coburn, President Gerry Campbell, Lady President Noeleen Gernon, Club Manager Leslie Walker and Bar Manager David Matthews.

Thanks were expressed to Tommy Traynor, Brian McCabe, D-Lish, Brewmaster, Eno WIners, Paul & Criona O’Reilly, Fyffes, Value Centre, Heineken and Guinness who kindly supplied product for the event as well as to hole sponsors Precision Cables, Emerald Tiles, Print Express, John O’Callaghan Tax Consultants, Daniel O’Connell Solicitors, Dash, Dublin Grass Machinery, AV Direct, PR Fire Protection, Halpenny Travel, Doohan Financial Planning, Frank’s Carpets, Life Pharmacy, Begleys, Staunton Stationary and Fyffes.

​The event would not have happened without the assistance of those Club Members who volunteered on the day to run the BBQ at the 10th tee and those junior golfers who participated in the Beat The Junior competition as well as other club members who helped out with some of the logistics.

Thanks are also due to the staff in the Pro Shop, the Office, the Bar and the Restaurant as well as Damian English and the greenkeeping staff who had the course in tip top shape for the event.
