Cunningham leads home gold medal qualifiers

Peter Cunningham (19) led home the 64 qualifiers in the Gold Medal after shooting a magnificent 62 nett over the last weekend in April as the top 11 qualifiers shot scores in the sixties.
 
A burst of hot scoring on the front nine when he birdied the par three fifth and parred the third, fourth and sixth holes saw him turn in 30 nett and produced two more bursts down the back nine with successive pars at the 10th and 11th followed by pars at the 13th, 14th and 15th to come home in 32 nett.
 
He finished four ahead of Ciaran Traynor (5) who shot a 66 nett with a round that included birdies at the sixth, 10th, 14th and 17th.
 
Cunningham will now play Sean Gallagher in the first round of the matchplay with Traynor meeting Padraig Hassett.
