STEADY ROUND DELIVERS SECOND SUCCESSIVE WIN FOR BYRNE

A round of solid consistent scoring saw Conor Byrne (22) hold off a closely grouped
chasing pack to emerge as overall winner of the weekend Single Stableford
competition with 40 points. It was second successive week that he emerged as the overall winner.
 
Conor’s outward nine included three pointers with pars at the par four second and
third holes and the par three ninth to boost his score to 20 points. On the back nine
he maintained his steady scoring, carding three pointers with pars on the par five
12th and par four 14th and a consistent run of two pointers on the other
seven holes to finish the back nine on 20 points.
 
Conor’s 20 points on the back nine was enough to pip Andrew Shekleton (16) who
finished runner up, also on 40 points, but came up short when it went to countback with 18 points on the closing nine. Andrew’s front nine included pars for three points at the par four first,
third and eighth holes, par three fifth and the par five seventh hole to turn on 22
points. His back nine failed to match his outward run despite finishing in style with a
birdie three for four points on the last hole.
 
Division 1 winner Michael Coburn (13) also had 40 points with a memorable 24
points on an outward nine that included four pointers from birdies at the par four third
and eighth holes.
 
Division 3 winner Michael Hamilton (22) on 39 points edged out Patrick Arrowsmith
(25), also on 39 points, with a better back nine. The winner of Division 2 was Ross
Kehoe (19) with 39 points.
 
The Wednesday Open Singles Competition sponsored by McKenna Man was won
by Patrick Gray (20) with 41 points, his 20 points on the back nine edging out Kevin
Henry (23) who also finished on 41 points.
